The Ardales Lake or as it is actually called ‘Embalse del Conde de Guadalhorce’ is located near the famous Caminito del Rey, a walkway, This turquoise-coloured lake guarantees a relaxing day of swimming in freshwater.
How to get there
If you drive up from Ardales and follow the signs to Caminito del Rey, you can turn left and drive to the lake. You can park your car near the water. This is a peaceful, flat place with shallow water. But… … if you continue your way up, you will reach a forest area. Nature is even more beautiful here.
On the left side of the road, you will see two surfboards standing upright. If your turn left here, you will reach a campsite, which is usually also accessible to day tourists. If you continue to drive you will see Zona Recreativa La Isla on your left. You pay a small amount for yourself and for your car.
The advantage is that there is a small kiosk for refreshments, a BBQ place and some toilets. In this place with picnic tables, you can sit in the shadow. The disadvantage is that it is a steep walk to the water. In addition, the water isn’t shallow, so dangerous for people without swimming certificates.
Pedal boats, SUP boards and a wipe-out obstacle course
In the summer months, you can rent canoes, pedal boats and SUP boards here. The pedal boats with slides are very popular. In July and August, there is a wipe-out obstacle course in the water. A fantastic activity for larger children and adults. The wipe-out obstacle course is hidden behind the mountain.
