Cycling in Andalusia

The sporty cyclist can indulge himself while cycling in Andalusia. For cyclists and mountain bikers, there are plenty of opportunities in the vicinity of Finca Las Nuevas for a wonderful day of cycling. From our house, you can perfectly set out with a mountain bike.

Cycling to El Torcal

There are sandy paths in all directions where you can cycle undisturbed. For instance, you cycle along a beautiful road to El Torcal. Along the way, you have a view of this beautiful mountain and cycle past a grove of cork oaks. The real die-hard might even venture up a steep climb to enjoy the unique landscape with beautiful limestone formations. At the visitor centre, you can enjoy great views from the terrace.

Not too much climbing in the Guadalhorce Valley

If you prefer cycling on the paved road and a bit less steep, the Guadalhorce Valley is ideal. The Guadalhorce is a river that eventually flows into the Mediterranean near Málaga. The valley named after this river starts west of Málaga and extends to the lakes of Ardales.

The region is characterised by agriculture. You will encounter many lemon and orange trees along the way. There are also many whitewashed mountain villages typical of Andalusia in this area, including Álora, Cártama, Pizarra, and Alhaurin el Grande. These offer plenty of opportunities to get off your bike have a drink or a bite to eat, and experience Spanish life.

These villages still have a real Spanish atmosphere, which is why they will be busy in the morning, but from around two o’clock siesta time starts and you will sometimes cycle alone through the village. Around seven o’clock in the evening, the liveliness in the village returns.

Extra mountain gear while cycling in Andalusia

As we mentioned above, if you want to conquer a mountain. Then the route to El Torcal is perfect for you. But don’t underestimate the road from Cártama to Finca Las Nuevas either. This road is the scene of the local cycling association’s annual bike ride. You will notice the chalked names on the road surface along the way.

Mountainbiking in Spain

If you cycle towards the Lakes of Ardales, you will follow the route of the Vuelta 2019. This beautiful mountain road passes through stunning scenery, so you might want to slow down a little to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Cycling in Málaga

Sometimes it is also nice to cycle with the whole family. If you are looking for a route that is fun for both you and the kids, then cycling in Málaga is great fun. You can book an organised cycling excursion in the city centre. But you can also easily rent your bike in the city and then cycle along the beach as far as you like. In most places, you cycle right by the beach on a cycle path. In some places, you have to walk a little bit here and there or just along the main road. Starting to get tired? No problem, there are terraces and restaurants everywhere and the sea is close by for a refreshing swim!

Málaga is always busy at weekends. That’s why it’s better to save the bike ride for a weekday.
